On 15 June 2020, the Iran DECIMALS team published the first ever SRM research paper to come from the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. The team, led by Dr Khalil Karami and based at the Centre for Research in Climate Change and Global Warming at the IASBS in Zanjan, explored how SRM could affect storm tracks in the region. Their paper was published in Geophysical Research Letters, and it concludes that SRM could partially offset the shift of storm tracks induced by global warming.
SRMGI planned to hold its second Global Forum in Berlin, Germany on 5 and 6 October 2020. In light of the Covid-19 pandemic, it was decided to postpone the Global Forum to Spring 2021.
In September 2019, SRMGI’s Project Director Andy Parker was invited to present to the US National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine’s panel on SRM governance.
