SRMGI recognizes that participation and input from a wide range of stakeholders is critical for well informed and diverse discussions.
Stakeholder partners bring a broad range of expertise to bear on deliberations, andĀ facilitate a wider conversation among scientists, civil society, policy experts, businesses and governments.
Role of Partners
The stakeholder role enables organizations to actively influence and inform the initiative, without any obligation to endorse any SRMGI activities. Stakeholder partners:
- are free to back the initiative recommendations formally, but there will be no compulsion or pressure to do so
- do not have to add their logos to initiative literature (unless they so desire)
- do not have to provide funding to the initiative, beyond paying for representatives to attend SRMGI conferences, if possible. The Royal Society often seeks to secure funds to subsidize the participation at such events for organizations that otherwise might not be able to attend
- are free to pursue work on geoengineering outside of the SRMGI
