Kenya June 2017

On 6 June 2017, SRMGI held an introductory workshop on the science and governance of solar radiation management (SRM) in Nairobi, Kenya. The workshop, attended by about 60 participants, was co-organized in a partnership between the African Academy of Sciences (AAS) – a long-standing partner of SRMGI in Africa, the Stockholm Environment Institute Africa (SEI Africa), the African Technology Policy Studies Network (ATPS), and the African Centre for Technology Studies (ACTS). Featuring a mix of presentations, plenary sessions, and small group discussions, the workshop involved participants from varied backgrounds, including academia, government, NGOs, intergovernmental bodies, and the media. Speakers included Prof. Shem Wandiga (University of Nairobi), Dr Chris Oludhe (University of Nairobi), Prof. Asfawossen Asrat Kassaye (Addis Ababa University, Ethiopia), Mr Sam Ogallah (Pan African Climate Justice Alliance), Mr Frankline Rono (Kenya Meteorological Department), and Mr Andy Parker (SRMGI).
